BRAC Ultra-Poor Graduation Initiative (UPGI) is working to change how a global community of leaders address extreme poverty — shifting how governments, civil society, and people living in extreme poverty work together to tackle this problem.

In 2020, UPGI received a catalytic investment as a TED 2020 Audacious Project which is making it possible for us to further accelerate expansion of BRAC’s Graduation approach through government integration. With this investment, we aim to reach 4.6 million more households by 2026 — expanding and evolving how we work while continuing to leverage nearly two decades of BRAC expertise and learning in this space. As the organization scales, we are working toward that vision in new ways, developing our institutional knowledge and capacity further in countries where we can have the greatest impact.

We are currently in the midst of bringing on new leadership with extensive experience in monitoring and evaluation, operations, human resources, program design and implementation, policy and external affairs, and more. We are also hiring more staff in the regions where we work, bringing our team closer to the communities we aim to serve. So far in 2021 we have hired dozens of staff in the Philippines, India, and Tunisia to help us expand our presence and future projects in those regions.

Marking our evolution as a global program, we are launching a new website which reflects the ways we are growing our capacity, changing our structure, and scaling our operations.

Our new website highlights BRAC UPGI’s values, work, and vision in a clearer, more interactive, more visual, and more intuitive way than before:
